This project was a concept for a self-authored picture book, in which I created my own original characters to illustrate.
The story was based around a Guinea pig family, the mother, known as the 'Guinea in a Pinny', was the main character, and her three baby guinea pigs were the catalysts for mischief within the story.
I used a very warm, and soft colour palette for these final artworks, as I wanted to reflect the comfort the characters felt in this scene.
I created a family of characters that could be potentially part of a series of books for a young audience. The illustrations of my characters were made using paper cut and collage techniques to create a playful and almost childlike feel to my images.
British Fashion through history
This project was a concept for an educational children's picture book, centred around different eras of fashion in British history. The two pages I produced were based around 18th Century fashion. The first double-page spread provided an introduction to the era and some basic historical context, which I felt was important to establish before getting into the clothing, in order to embed some more general history into the book.
The second page was dedicated to the undergarments that would have been worn during the time period. I chose to dedicate a whole double-page spread to just the undergarments as I felt all of the different layers that went into constructing such elaborate styles of dress were important to unpick, in order to fully understand the clothing overall.
